The Priory Hotel
The Priory Hotel in Pittsburgh is a repurposed Benedictine monastery. The monks lived pretty well. We enjoyed a spacious king room with large windows and Victorian furnishings. Made - to - pre-order bagged breakfast that we ate in the refectory. We were among four or five guests. Not peak season. Pittsburgh in a January snow storm. Exceptionally efficient and warm front desk staff. The hotel is located in the remnants of an old European immigrant neighborhood that was wrecked by an expressway. We had dinner a few blocks away at Huszar Hungarian Restaurant. The restaurant is in a corner tavern on a somewhat run down block adjacent to the expressway. Do not be put off by appearances. The food was excellent. Chicken paprikash and a Hungarian pork schnitzel with great sauce. Side of pickled red cabbage. Sour cherry strudel for dessert. We were the only guests. We enjoyed hearing the life histories of the proprietor : cook :: wife : husband and the back story on the restaurant. We also appreciated an intense and civil discussion of Hungarian and American politics. Reservations recommended to alert staff that customers are coming.

The Priory is a delightful hotel with an ambiance of its own. We Loved the decor, antiques and period pieces that were well restored and functional. The rooms were large, comfortable, and clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved the back patio area, which was beautifully done with flowers, a fountain and round tables. We had drinks and snacks after the Pirate game under twinkling lights and breakfast the next day in the morning sun. A free shuttle from PNC Park was helpful. Free parking was also a plus. Will definitely recommend to friends and stay again in the future.

Gorgeous adaptive reuse. Plenty of original interior details paired with high quality finishes. Delightful brick paved courtyard with verdant plantings and string lights. Monk's Bar was an adorable pre-dinner stop for our group of friends. Location is in a historic neighborhood easily walkable via sidewalks over the picturesque Seventh Street Bridge to the center of downtown and adjacent cultural district. Grab and Go breakfast was warm and ready on time with delicious house-made ham and cheese croissant, fresh fruit, juice, waters, coffee, and tea.

Nowhere better to stay! Highly recommended! Beautiful historic hotel with everything you need for a great trip to Pittsburgh. We stayed here on a romantic getaway and loved it. Lovely rooms with classic furniture and a comfortable bed along with robes and plush towels. All the small details combine for a wonderful stay. We enjoyed the on-site bar with delicious cocktails, friendly staff, and shuttle service provided by Bob. So grateful the owners saved this gem from demolition! Check out this property and the others maintained by Priory.

I loved the charm of the old building and the antique furniture and details. The room had high ceilings, especially on the ground floor. My room was on the ground floor and was pretty large. Not all the rooms, however, are that large. The hotel is also wheelchair accessible with a lift from the street level and an elevator for the upper floors. The heating/cooling system was very quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The gravel-surfaced parking lot is across the street.
